I love the time between Halloween and Valentine’s Day, especially when it comes to decorating around the house. Unfortunately, with a ‘normal’ size home and a family full of artists there isn’t a lot of room left for decorations, which are primarily relegated to our front door and living room mantle.
This year I am going for old school look. The plan is to buy the vases, paper mache’ and real pumpkins, and make the lighted tree branches and felt ‘Halloween Candy Bag’ banner. With any luck, I can get my mantle tricked out by next weekend – which really will be a treat!
The only time I feel inspired to decorate my home is between summer’s end and Christmas. Now that it is ‘officially’ fall I am planning my Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas mantle looks (see my 2016 looks here and here).
This Halloween I am feeling inspired by the way black, silver, grey, dirty white and olive green look together. I will reuse my ‘Boo’ sign, buy a few led candles, ravens and assorted lanterns, and make the black feather wreath, branch bunches, and lace-covered, velvet, and glittered pumpkins. Check back over the next few weeks as I post a few easy-to-follow ‘ tutorials and to compare how closely the eventual reality matches my vision.
Last week I featured a mantle designthat I hoped to make for Thanksgiving. I was aiming to have everything finished a few days ago but…..I actually finished an hour ago. In between getting our turkey in the oven and planning my weekend shopping I am so thankful…for my family and friends, for my health, for my faith, for my creativity, and most importantly for each day I wake up and get to do it all over again. Happy Thanksgiving!
